How to write report definition on database views in pega?
how to write report definition on database views in pega,
Issue: I need to do 8 class joins for the requirement from client, instead doing all class joins can i create a view for these joins and can i write a report definition rule ? Can any one help me on this query.

Hi Naveen,
You can. If you are using the Pega cloud, you might have to raise an SR with the view table SQL query for creating or altering. After executing CREATE View SQL query,
- You can use Schema tools from the Configure menu to verify the table availability inside Pega.
- Create a new class in the respective hierarchy.
- Create a Database Table rule for the created class.
- Mention the created View table name in the table name field in that rule.
After that, you can write report definition rules as usual to pull up records.
From my experience, maintaining the View table becomes hard when adding new or altering columns then implementing those in the class Joins. Go for View table implementation only if it is mandatory for performance improvement.

Thanks for the answering my question, What you said is right, maintaining the view table is hard, but to reduce the performance impact, was there any best approach, can you suggest me ?

It depends somewhat on the nature and amount of the data in the view. If it is an historical report (e.g., through end of business the day before) it can be populated overnight rather than on demand.
To minimize the impact on operations in your application database, you can set up an alternate "reporting" database that mirrors the tables you need.
