Special character issue in SMS treatment

When I am adding the '&' character in SMS treatment, I am getting it as '&amp' in the SMS body after testing it. I cheecked for the DeliverSMS activity, but it only has an inbuilt code to replace multiple spaces,new lines or tabs. Where can i check why the & is getting replaced as '&amp'?
