I'm not sure I understand what you're building. But how are you adding this e into the field? On it's own? Or as part of a longer number representation like 1.234e+20 ?

Thanks for posting your query in PSC. It is expected behavior because, "e" stands for exponential which is a numeric symbol.

You can restrict it by calling a simple javascript function on key down with the below example:-

function FilterInput(event) {
    var keyCode = ('which' in event) ? event.which : event.keyCode;

    isNotWanted = (keyCode == 69 || keyCode == 101);
    return !isNotWanted;
};
