Pega OpenSpan Studio: Web Application or Universal Web Application?

I've been going through the robotics training for a couple of weeks now and I can't seem to find a lot of information about this question. What is the difference between a "Web Application" and a "Universal Web Application"? Could anyone shed some light for me?

Looks like at least one difference between the two is that Web Application only supports Internet Explorer, where Universal Web Application will also support other browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
