It can be achieved in two steps.

1. Use the function @DateTime.weekday(Date). Pass Simple Date in the format YYYYMMDD. This function will give number for the day. If it is Sunday-1 Monday - 2 ..... and Saturday - 7.

2. Use decision table to match the name of the day with output of the above function.

steps:-

1.)convert your given date to Big Decimal by using @dateTimeToBigDecimal("20170331","Date",tools)

2.)now use @weekday() function as @weekday( @dateTimeToBigDecimal("20170331","Date",tools))

Note:-@weekday function will take bigdecimal as ita parameter and return integer respective to weekday.

ex-sun-01,mon-02,tue-03....

3.)param.a=@weekday( @dateTimeToBigDecimal("20170331","Date",tools))

4.)a=6

you can use @formatdatetime function to find the day of given date.
