reduce email hostname lookup timeout

I would like to reduce the hostname lookup timeout for sending email correspondence.

The default is 60000 ms. For a proof-of-concept demo, I would like this to be all but zero.

I'm prepared to edit a config file if that is what it takes.

any help will be most appreciated.
