difference between PVS and Pega Personal edition
I downloaded pega 7 personal edition, but it is not supporting me to do hands on exercises, so do I need to download PVS to do the exercises.

For the most part, the answer is yes.
There are a number of "things" you would need to do the Pega 7 Personal Edition environment including adding operator IDs and importing any necessary pre-made artifacts. And, because you would be working in what would be considered a "non-supported" environment, you would be mostly on your own for making these necessary adjustments.
Given that the PVS for any given course is pre-configured to support the exercises in that course, there is little value in trying to re-create the environment on your own. This becomes espeically relevant when you discover there can be an uncounted number of "pre-made" artifacts for any given course such as operator ID's, case types, integrations, Ui components, work baskets, etc.
