Capturing and Storing Vital Information in Pega 7.1

Hello Folks - In terms of security, I was wondering what would be the best approach and practice to capture, store, and re-use certain vital information such as ITIN & SSN in Pega 7.1.X I am aware of using SSL and then encrypting the table itself, however, can someone elaborate the detailed steps. Looking for some real expert advice.
