According to Gartner's IT Glossary, " Enterprise architecture (EA) is a discipline for proactively and holistically leading enterprise responses to disruptive forces by identifying and analyzing the execution of change toward desired business vision and outcomes. EA delivers value by presenting business and IT leaders with signature-ready recommendations for adjusting policies and projects to achieve target business outcomes that capitalize on relevant business disruptions. EA is used to steer decision making toward the evolution of the future state architecture. "
Also, according to Gartner's IT Glossary, " Business process management (BPM) is the discipline of managing processes (rather than tasks) as the means for improving business performance outcomes and operational agility. Processes span organizational boundaries, linking together people, information flows, systems and other assets to create and deliver value to customers and constituents. "
Because BPM shifts an organizations focus towards continuous process improvement it is important that all process improvements and the changes that inevitably result from those process improvements made over time are in alignment with the enterprises long term vision and goals.
