what is the difference between Addwork and SvcAddWorkObject Activites?

Hi Bala,

"Addwork" activity usage description: "Call this activity to create a new work object from a Utility or Post-Processing activity.  Prior to calling this activity create and populate a new work object page using createWorkPage then use it as the primary page to call this activity. Caller must commit changes using commitWithErrorHandling."

Steps to use this activity:

  1. Call CreateWorkPage
  2. Call AddWork
  3. Call commitwitherrorhandling 

"SvcAddWorkObject" activity is typically called from a service context. It allows you to create and drive work processes through service calls.

  1. Create a page(EX. WorkPage) of your Work class and set values of all required properties.
  2. Call svcAddWorkObject using WorkPage as step page.
  3. Give the starting flow name of your case in FlowType parameter of `svcAddWorkObject`  activty.

Thanks Sue for the Update.

     As per my understanding ,svcAddWorkObject is used to call the flow having service context(Integrator shapes etc) ,but using AddWork activity we cannot achieve this? Please correct if i am wrong..

 Also using AddWork ,is it possible to call the flow?

Hi Bala, 

Based on my research, if you look into the activity svcAddWorkObject, it goes to call AddWork (step 4, based on the version of Pega-Procom:07-10-17) . "FlowType" is one of the required parameters for svcAddWorkObject. 

AddWork adds a new work object using the primary page data. You can open AddWork activity to check the parameters passed in and all steps in it.

Do you have any concern that you cannot call svcAddWorkObject?

If you have a flow having service context, I would suggest you to use svcAddWorkObject.
